Dr Anne T. Bruinvels (Founder and Chief
Scientific Officer)
Anne has more than 17 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Prior to founding Curidium, Anne was Scientific Director, Business Development at Pharmagene (now Asterand), where she contributed to the growth of the organisation from private start-up to publicly listed biotechnology company. Previously, she has led research groups, as Head of Neurogenetics, SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals (now GlaxoSmithkline) and as Head of Neuroanatomy and co-leader of global schizophrenia research at Wyeth. Anne was awarded a PhD scholarship at Sandoz Pharma (now Novartis) and obtained her PhD (neuroscience) from Utrecht University (the Netherlands). She was presented with the London Biotechnology Network “Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award” in 2003. |
Mr. Nathan Caffo (VP Business Development)
Nathan Caffo joined Curidium in June 2007. He recently held the position of Senior Director of Business Development at Perlegen Sciences, a US based personalized medicine company. Prior to that Nathan spent 11 years at the Applera Corporation, a provider of life sciences tools, within both the Applied Biosystems and Celera divisions. At Applied Biosystems, he held a variety of marketing, technical and business management roles, most recently as Senior Business Manager of Integrated Laboratory Services. He has also conducted academic research in HIV therapy. Nathan received a B.S. in Microbiology from the Pennsylvania State University. |
Mr. Simon Cartmell (Non-Executive Chairman)
Simon has 24 years pharmaceutical, healthcare and biotechnology industry experience. He spent 17 years at GlaxoWellcome (now GlaxoSmithkline) in a number of UK and global roles, including therapy area director, infectious diseases and hepatitis and supply chain director, responsible for the global order and fulfilment process from GlaxoSmithkline’s seven UK manufacturing sites. Simon joined Vernalis plc (formerly Vanguard Medica plc) as chief operating officer in 1998 overseeing its acquisition of the neurosciences company Cerebrus plc in 1999. Following this he joined the main board of Celltech in the role of chief executive officer, of Celltech Pharmaceuticals, a major player in the US ADHD market. Upon leaving Celltech in mid 2002, Simon has worked with the venture capital and biotech community in a variety of interim CEO, business development and consulting roles. In addition to his role as chairman of Curidium, he is currently CEO of ApaTech Ltd, a spine focused medical technology company and chairman of OSspray Ltd, a dental materials company. |
Dr. Barry Porter (Non-Executive Director)
Barry is CEO of ReOx Pharmaceutical Ltd and a non-executive director of Inhibox Limited. He has more than 20 years pharmaceutical industry experience. Recently Barry has been senior Vice President Drug Discovery and director at De Novo Pharmaceuticals Limited. Prior to that, he held senior positions at Pharmagene, now Asterand (Vice President Therapeutics), Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (Senior Director of Medicinal Chemistry) and Glaxo Group Research (Research Leader). Barry gained his PhD from the University of California, San Diego followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with Syntex in Palo Alto. |
Dr. Gosse B. Bruinsma (Executive Chairman-elect)
Dr. Gosse B. Bruinsma most recently served as Director and President and CEO of Axonyx Inc. in New York until he successfully merged the company with a private USA-based company in October 2006. During his tenure with Axonyx he also fulfilled the role of Chief Operating Officer from February 2001 to September 2003 and President from September 2003 until the merger. He was also President of Axonyx Europe BV between October 2000 and October 2006. For more than 20 years Gosse has held senior level positions at a number of biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical service companies, including European Medical Director for Zambon, Milan, Vice President for Medical and Regulatory Affairs for ClinTrials Research, UK, Medical Director for Forest Laboratories in New York, and General Manager and VP Development for Chrysalis Clinical Services Europe based in Switzerland. Gosse received his undergraduate degree from McGill University, Montreal and his medical degree from the University of Leiden, The Netherlands. He served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OXIS International in 2004. Gosse currently serves as Director on the Supervisory Board of Agendia BV based in Amsterdam and advises several other companies at executive and Board level.

Dr. Smita Price (Director of Psychiatry Research)
Smita Price (formerly Smita Patel) joined Curidium in April 2006 with over 15 years experience in CNS drug discovery and development at Merck, Neuroscience Research Centre, UK. At Merck, Smita successfully managed multiple CNS projects, led the Target Evaluation team within Exploratory Psychiatry and contributed to the advancement of in-licensing opportunities, CNS portfolio management and drug development strategies. Prior to joining Merck, she conducted research on epilepsy as a Postdoctoral Fellow with Professor Brian Meldrum at the Institute of Psychiatry in London. Smita received her PhD in Physiology from the University of Manchester and a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology from the University of Cardiff, S. Wales. |

Dr. Phyllis E. Whiteley (Non-Executive Director)
Dr. Phyllis E. Whiteley is a director of the US
Personalized Medicine Coalition and she was until
recently Senior Vice President of Business Development
and Licensing of Perlegen Inc., a US based personalized
medicine company. Prior to Perlegen, Phyllis was Vice
President Strategic Portfolio Management, Global Pharma
Research Strategy for F. Hoffman La Roche. During her
ten year tenure with Roche she held various positions
including Vice President Business Development and Global
Licensing Director based in Basel, Switzerland and other
research leadership positions including Therapeutic Area
Head. Prior to Roche, Phyllis was with Merck. She holds
a Ph.D., Pharmacology from Washington University, St.
Louis, Missouri.

Robert (Rob) Smith MSc ACMA as Finance Director at Curidium with effect from 1st January 2007. Rob is a Chartered Management Accountant and has been a Director of Densitron Technologies plc for the last four years, initially as Finance Director and currently as Chief Executive Officer. |
